TEF Test
The TEF (Test d'Evaluation de Français) is a certificate delivered by the Chambre de Commerce et d'Industrie de Paris which is recognized by business firms and educational institutions. It is the best and fastest way to assess the level in French language of non native speakers.
Why Take The TEF? To assess your comprehension and communication skills in French and to know your own performance. After you have taken the tests, The Chambre de Commerce et d'Industrie de Paris promptly delivers a certificate valid for a year (results are communicated by email 3 days after reception of the tests in Paris by the CCIP. Certificate is mailed whithin 2 weeks.
Who should take the tests? Everybody willing to assess their level in French. Students of the Alliance Française, at any level, who wish to assess their skills before or after a session of classes. Students who are seeking admission in Grandes Ecoles or French speaking universities, or for employment. TEF is officially recognized by the French Ministry of Education and translates into college credits. Employees, for employment or promotion. Migrants to Canada: Citizenship and Immigration Canada strongly recommends that migrants applying as "Skilled Workers" take the TEF as a proof of their French language skills. Optional tests: Written expression: 1 hour, Oral expression (35 minutes). How should I prepare for the TCF? Although no class specifically prepares to taking the TEF, any course will help your comprehension and conversation skills in French.

TCF Test
The Test de connaissance du français (TCF), designed by the CIEP (Centre international d’études pédagogiques) and accredited by the French Ministry of Education, is a French language proficiency test for non-native speakers of French who wish to evaluate and have their level of proficiency certified for professional, academic or personal reasons. In general, the TCF grades and ranks candidates at one of the six levels (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 or C2) on a scale defined by the Council of Europe (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). TCF grade results are reliable measurements for determining proficiency. Each candidate is awarded a certificate which is valid for two years. The TCF is a multiple-choice test with 80 items that cover reading comprehension, command of grammatical structures and listening comprehension (duration: 1.5 hours). It also includes optional tests for written (1.45 hours) and oral expressions (15 minutes). Please allow 3 hrs to take the test and two to three weeks to receive the results. TCF - DAP (Demande d'Admission Préalable)is a test required for admission to undergraduate studies in a French university. It is offered once a year.

DELF Diploma
What is the DELF diploma? The DELF (Diplôme d'Études en Langue Française) is an official diploma awarded by the French Ministry of Education to certify the competency of candidates from outside France in the French language. DELF is composed of 6 diplomas that have been harmonized with the European standards corresponding to the 6 levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages since Sept. 1, 2005.
At each level, 4 skills are evaluated: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

Who can take the diplomas? Anyone who is not a native French-speaker and who would like his/her French skills to be recognized for personal or professional purposes can take the exams. These diplomas are also recognized by some French universities and Grandes Écoles as meeting French language requirements for entry. How do I prepare for the exam?
